MUW to
host Future Problem Solving Bowl
COLUMBUS,
Miss. – Mississippi University for Women will host the
annual Mississippi Future Problem Solving Affiliate Bowl
April 6-7.
Events on
Thursday will run from 12:30-5 p.m. Friday’s events will
begin at 8 a.m. and finish at noon.
The bowl
serves as a creative problem solving competition for
elementary, middle and high school students. It is the
end of a yearlong program where students were challenged
to creatively seek, attack and solve problems related to
projections into the future. Students worked on three
problems throughout the year including “Climate
Change/Climate Threat,” “Freedom of Speech” and
“Nutrition.”
Thirty of the top teams
from across Mississippi will compete in the events.
Students in grades fourth through sixth, seventh through
ninth and 10th through 12th will work on the general
topic, “Healthcare Access,” for this year’s bowl. The
specific nature of the problem and attempts to solve it
will not be allowed until the bowl begins.
The top three teams from
each grade division will receive trophies. State
champions will be invited to represent Mississippi at
the Future Problem Solving International Conference at
Colorado State University in June.
The Future Problem Solving
Bowl at MUW is funded by a Congressionally-directed
grant through the Roger F. Wicker Center for Creative
Learning.
