MUW develops Anybody Award to recognize `wonderful
campus citizens’
COLUMBUS, Miss. – Anybody could have done it and
somebody did is the premise for a new award at
Mississippi University for Women.
Initiated and developed by Dr. Sam Gingerich, MUW
provost and vice president for academic affairs, MUW
President A. Claudia Limbert said the award is
similar to a program she participated in at Penn
State prior to arriving at MUW.
The award can be presented to a group of outstanding
individuals as well as one exceptional person, she
noted.
“While boosting morale is always a good thing, the
big thing driving this award is what it is basically
all about—recognizing someone who saw something that
needed doing and just rolled up his or her sleeves
and got it done,” Limbert said.
According to a synopsis about the award, any campus
member may submit nominations by writing a brief
statement stating why an individual or group
deserves the award. Administrators also are
encouraged to nominate deserving employees. Any
administrator may also survey campus members to
solicit suggestions of people who have been
especially helpful.
The review committee will consist of two vice
presidents, two deans, Faculty Senate president,
Staff Council president and Student Government
Association president. Committee members have agreed
to meet anytime a nomination is brought forward.
The award presentation format has not yet been
determined, however those receiving the award will
be presented with a plaque purchased by the MUW
Foundation.
“Every campus has unsung heroes among its faculty
and staff and this is one way to recognize such
people who simply note something that needs doing
and then just get it done,” Limbert said. “This is
our way of recognizing such wonderful campus
citizens.”
