MUW hosts Obesity Initiative Luncheon
COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Commit to Be Fit program in
conjunction with the Health and Kinesiology
Department at Mississippi University for Women will
host the annual Obesity Initiative Luncheon on
Tuesday, Nov. 15.
Community leaders in the areas of education,
healthcare and media have been invited to
participate in the program to create awareness of
obesity and its debilitating effects.
The program also will include updates from local
elementary schools, a general overview of
initiatives, an update on obesity and a slide show.
This is the third luncheon of its kind to be held at
MUW. The graduate program in health education at MUW
hosted two luncheons last year to create an
awareness campaign for the Columbus community.
Dr. Joyce Yates, professor in health education, said
those who attended last year are encouraged to
attend this year “to celebrate the past
accomplishments and energize present programs.”
Lunch will be held in the Pope Banquet Room located
on the second floor of Hogarth Dining Center.
