MUW graduate student awarded Toyota TAPESTRY grant
COLUMBUS, Miss. – Pat Smith of Vernon, Ala. and a
Mississippi University for Women graduate student in
the reading literacy program, recently wrote and
received a Toyota TAPESTRY grant.
She wrote the grant as part of her classroom
assignments for a graduate education course.
Smith was awarded the $2,500 grant to purchase
materials for her classroom as part of a reading and
science unit about nocturnal animals.
After receiving the grant and developing the unit
she was asked to share her unit with other teachers
at the Alabama Science Teacher Convention.
The Toyota TAPESTRY grant program is sponsored by
Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., and is
administered by the National Science Teachers
Association. Over the past 14 years, this program
has awarded more than 550 grants totaling over $5
million.
Toyota TAPESTRY grants are awarded in three
categories that include environmental science
education, physical science applications and
literary and science education.
