ASN program achieves 100 percent pass rate
COLUMBUS,
Miss. – Thirty-nine students from the Associate of
Science in Nursing program at Mississippi University
for Women helped achieve a 100 percent pass rate on
this year’s National Council Licensure Examination.
The last time the
program achieved this pass rate was in 1991. Over
the past 14 years, faculty and students alike have
been diligently working to achieve a higher level of
success.
Mary Jo Kirkpatrick,
ASN department chair, said, “The faculty worked very
hard to incorporate the additions and changes [to
the program] that were needed. They worked
tirelessly in rewriting test questions to better
test the students at the application and analysis
levels.”
“The students met our
challenge for a higher level of testing and were
successful. They studied, asked questions and
responded to our concern for their success,” said
Kirkpatrick about the hard work of the students and
faculty.
According to
Kirkpatrick, the national average for this exam has
hovered between 83 and 87.5 percent over the last
eight years with an average of 85.26 percent in
2004.
ASN graduates schedule
their own tests after graduation and complete them
at various locations around the country.
When asked about her
feelings regarding the 100 percent pass rate,
Kirkpatrick simply said, “This is quite an
accomplishment.”
