MUW Education Students Create Literacy Centers
COLUMBUS, Miss. – About 15 education students and
elementary education instructor, Jeanne Holland,
recently created literacy centers for the campus child
care children.
Holland explained that the purpose of the centers was
for the Education 362 students to take the information
they had discussed in class and implement it into a real
educational environment.
Holland said about 30 children, ages three and four,
participated in the project. Students planned and
prepared the centers for two weeks. The centers were
meant to incorporate literacy experiences into a
stimulating environment for children in the early stages
of literacy.
MUW students provided as many literacy experiences as
possible while the centers were open. These experiences
included opportunities to read, write, listen, speak and
view.
Holland said, “It was an eye opening experience for the
students and a fun-filled and enjoyable time for the
children.”
