Commitment from MUW alumna will produce
more than $2 million in support of scholarships
COLUMBUS, Miss. – Mississippi University for Women
alumna Ina E. Gordy, class of 1929, has made a
commitment to the University, which will produce more
than $2 million in support of scholarships for top
students who are a part of the MUW Honors College.
The Honors College provides an opportunity for
academically advanced and motivated students to
participate in a learning experience that is intensive
and innovative. It also encourages and nurtures
intellectual curiosity by offering advanced sections of
core requirements, seminars in interdisciplinary
subjects and opportunities to work closely with a
faculty committee on an original research project.
MUW President Claudia A. Limbert will seek approval by
the Board of Trustees of State Institution of Higher
Learning for the naming of the MUW Honors College for
Gordy.
“We are very grateful to Miss Gordy. Her gift is
directed at the heart of the quality of our academic
program,” she said.
Criteria for the Ina E. Gordy Endowed Scholarship
include an ACT score of 25 or higher, a letter of
recommendation from a high school or community college
counselor, an impressive list of community involvement
and an impressive list of high school or community
college involvement.
W. Scott Rawles, vice president for institutional
advancement, added, “This represents the largest single
gift received by MUW. We are honored by her generosity.”
