MUW to mark Constitution Day with lecture
from homeland security and terrorism expert
COLUMBUS, Miss. – Dr. Brian Anderson, associate
professor of political science, will lecture on
“Counter-Terrorism: Security v. Liberty” at Mississippi
University for Women on Thursday, Sept. 15.
An expert on homeland security and terrorism, Anderson’s
discussion will focus on the counterterrorism strategy
of Pres. George W. Bush’s administration, emphasizing
the USA Patriot Act.
This lecture, which is also part of the Honors Forum,
comes in part in response to federal legislation that
requires universities and colleges to observe
Constitution Day on Sept. 17 or earlier the previous
week if the 17th falls on a weekend.
Anderson’s interests include Islamic extremist
organizations and their origins, agendas and activities,
which may include terrorist acts against the West and
pro-West secular regimes in the Muslim World. He has had
two guest columns about terrorism published in The
Clarion-Ledger. In addition to giving presentations on
these topics, he has taught Honors seminars and taught
one of his terrorism courses in London. Anderson has a
doctorate from Pennsylvania State University.
The event will be held in Parkinson Hall, Nissan
Auditorium, at 6:45 p.m. It is free and open to the
public.
