MUW Records Another Enrollment Increase
COLUMBUS, Miss. – Enrollment is up 2.56 percent at
Mississippi University for Women.
As of the
end of the second day of classes, enrollment is at 2,319
compared to 2,261 the same time last year.
MUW has
experienced three years of consistent enrollment growth,
which is attributed to a highly personalized learning
environment made possible through the dedication of its
faculty.
“I think
this increase is reflective of student interest in a
quality education provided in a setting that meets the
individual needs of those students,” said MUW President
Claudia Limbert. “We care as much about our students’
education as they do.”
Dr. Bucky
Wesley, vice president for student services, said,
“There is a lot of excitement on campus with the opening
of a new year and with full occupancy in the women’s
residence halls.”
The
university learned last week that it is ranked tenth
among Southern public master’s universities for the
second year in a row in U.S.News & World Report’s 2006
edition of “America’s Best Colleges.” It is the only
Mississippi institution ranked in this category.
MUW offers
more than 50 majors including business, education and
nursing, whose graduates in the bachelor of science
nursing program have a 99.27 percent pass rate on the
National Licensure Exam since inception of the program.
In addition, there are educational opportunities in a
wide range of signature programs from culinary arts to
music therapy.
