Wicker Center for Creative Learning to award mini-grants
to teachers for innovative programs
COLUMBUS, Miss. – Kindergarten through university
educators still have time to submit proposals for
mini-grants made possible through the Roger F. Wicker
Center for Creative Learning at Mississippi University
for Women.
The mini-grants up to $2,000 must fund innovative,
action-based programs that directly affect student
achievement. Funds may not be utilized for field trips
or basic curriculum needs, and recipients will be
responsible for submitting a complete report to the
Wicker Center for Creative Learning within 60 days of
project completion.
Seven area teachers were the first to receive the
mini-grants totaling more than $9,000 in December.
Twenty-one proposals were submitted.
There are two award periods annually. The proposal
deadline for fall proposals is April 30 and Oct. 31 for
spring grants. Awardees will be notified within six
weeks of the proposal deadline and funds will be
available within three weeks of notification.
“We look forward to receiving your exciting proposals,
which will enable you to provide students with a more
creative, enhanced educational program,” said Kate M.
Brown, associate director. “If your grant is awarded,
you will be invited to present your project at the
Center’s dissemination conference.”
Funded by a congressionally-directed grant through the
Department of Education, the mission of the Wicker
Center for Creative Learning is to provide innovations
in teaching, learning opportunities, service and
educational research across Mississippi and beyond.
