MUW nursing program recognized at state convention

COLUMBUS, Miss. – Mississippi University for Women was recognized with two awards at the Mississippi Organization for Associate Degree Nursing (M-OADN) state convention in Biloxi.

Jill Tucker, a freshman from Columbus, won the $1,000 Bobbie Anderson Scholarship, which is given to an outstanding ASN student. Prior to enrolling at MUW, Tucker served in the U.S. Peace Corps in Senegal, West Africa, for two and a half years. She has a bachelor of arts degree in psychology and minor in sociology from Indiana University.

The Mississippi Organization for Associate Degree Nursing Students (MOSA) MUW Chapter also received a certificate of recognition for outstanding service to the community in conjunction with MOSA Makes A Difference Day 2004.

MOSA’s objectives:

  • Maintain eligibility for registered nurse licensure for graduates of associate degree nursing programs

  • Promote leadership skills and professionalism of students enrolled in associate degree nursing programs

  • Promote scholastic achievement of students enrolled in associate degree nursing programs

  • Promote public understanding of the roles and competencies of registered nurses who are graduates of associate degree nursing programs

  • Participate in legislative action supportive of the goals of this organization and the M-OADN.
