Hunt named Mississippi PLT Educator of the Year
COLUMBUS, Miss. – Dr. Barbara Hunt, Mississippi
University for Women professor of education, was named
the Mississippi Project Learning Tree (PLT) Educator of
the Year.
Project Learning Tree is an environmental science
program for pre-service and in-service teachers who are
trained at a PLT workshop and receive teaching materials
for attending.
“For nine years (the time Hunt has served at MUW), I
have worked with these wonderful people (Mississippi
Forestry workshop facilitators). All of our
undergraduates have attended these workshops every
semester.”
A longtime supporter of PLT, Hunt is a key player in the
Columbus City School Choice program. She will work
directly with Mitchell Elementary to help it become a
Project Learning Tree School Model, which would be
created through a grant from PLT and other
contributions.
Hunt also competed for the national PLT Educator of the
Year award and was given a $500 stipend to help pay her
expenses to attend the PLT international conference in
Oregon in June..
