FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Feb. 7, 2005 MUW career center to host spring Career Day COLUMBUS, Miss. -- Mississippi University for Women’s Office of Career Services will continue its efforts to assist students in the job search process by hosting spring 2005 Career Day on Wednesday, Feb. 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Pope Banquet Rooms. Career Day provides the chance for students in all majors to interact with employers to discuss current and upcoming career opportunities and the key skills employers are seeking in candidates. These events allow students to see how competitive it is in the work force and the importance of acquiring and developing diverse skills prior to leaving college. To prepare students for Career Day, the Office of Career Services sponsored Career Awareness Week, which included nightly workshops held in the Nissan Auditorium. Topics included Exploring Career Options: Discover the RIGHT Major for You!; Employment Correspondence (cover letter, resume, references, and portfolio development); Tools for a Successful Job Search in Today’s Economy and Strategies for Successful Interviewing; It’s All About Image: Dress for Success and How to Work a Career Fair/Networking. A Dining Etiquette Seminar was held to make students aware of the importance of projecting a professional image in a business/dining setting. Attendees were given free items to aid in networking opportunities. Business portfolios for interviewing were given as door prizes. Organizations that will be in attendance include: Enterprise-Rent-A-Car, Valley Services, Inc., Avon Products, Inc., ClientLogic, Mississippi Department of Human Services, Wal-Mart, Inc., Harveys, Grill, Sweet Peppers Deli, Mississippi Department of Employment Security, Trustmark National Bank, Mississippi Methodist Senior Services, SPRINTMART, Mississippi Department of Education, Internal Revenue Service, WCBI-TV, LLC, Trinity Health Care Center, Mary Kay, Inc., Federal Bureau of Investigations, Tower Loan and U.S. Army. Career Day is open to all MUW students and alumni. Students should keep in mind that they only get one chance to make a first impression, so attendees are advised to dress in business attire and bring several copies of their resume.
