FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Jan. 13, 2005 MUW receives positive action from SACS By Jill D. O’Bryant COLUMBUS, Miss. -- Mississippi University for Women has been notified by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) that the university’s follow up report following reaffirmation has been accepted with no additional report requested. “We are pleased with this news because reaccreditation is vital for any university,” said Dr. Claudia A. Limbert, president. “As a result of going through the process, we have developed some new policies and procedures that should be helpful to us in the future.” MUW was fully reaffirmed at the Commission’s December 2003 meeting with a follow up report due during the fall 2004 semester. The Commission reviews universities every 10 years. MUW’s next review is scheduled for 2014. “We feel great about our successful completion of the SACS reaffirmation process,” said Dr. Mark Bean, special assistant to the president for planning and institutional effectiveness. “Our work was received enthusiastically by the Commission. This process was very beneficial and required a united campus effort.” Prior to the December 2003 decision, the university engaged in a three-year self-study process that included preparing a self-study report. Then SACS sent a visiting committee to campus as part of the reaffirmation process. |
