Fun educational opportunities planned in conjunction with Center grand opening

  
COLUMBUS, Miss. – Mississippi University for Women will be the center of activity next week.
   
On Thursday, Oct. 28, MUW will commence the grand opening celebration for the Center for Creative Learning.
   
A reception honoring Congressman Roger F. Wicker will be held Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the fourth floor of the Education and Human Sciences Building. The facility will be named after Wicker.
   
Activities will continue on Friday, Oct. 29 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The Center will be open to the campus community and public with refreshments and tours.
   
A host of activities for families with children grades kindergarten through sixth are planned for Saturday, Oct. 30.
   
From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., participants will be able to explore their artistic side or make paper at the Weyerhaeuser booth.
   
A science carnival by Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science students, Mother Goose, Karaoke and other activities will be a part of the fun.
   
Students and teachers have been invited to participate in the Global Simulation Workshop, an interactive game where the players, divided into 20 teams that represent regions, corporations and organizations, compete and negotiate for wealth, resources and influence.
   
Over the past years, more than 350,000 participants from 40 countries have participated in this unique experience.
   
The workshop will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in MUW’s temporary gymnasium.
   
Dr. Suzanne Bean, Center for Creative Learning director, said, “We have lots of fun and exciting learning opportunities planned for families.”
   
Activities are free and open to the public; however, an adult must accompany children at all times.
