FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Oct. 1, 2004 Contact: Edmond McDavis III (662) 241-7851 MUW to participate in Educator Awareness Day COLUMBUS, Miss. -- It is routine for teachers to educate their students. Similarly, it is routine for those in search of secondary knowledge to find it at Mississippi University for Women, where college professors supply students with useful academic information daily. On Wednesday, Oct. 6, MUW will put a spin on the usual, when the campus opens its doors to inform 206 Columbus Municipal School District teachers as part of Educator Awareness Day, an opportunity for local educators to learn more about MUW and the Columbus Air Force Base. For the past several years, Education-Manufacturer Day has provided teachers a workday where they visit various industries in this area. The Columbus-Lowndes Development Link is the sponsor. Continuing Education Director Patricia Brock serves on the planning committee for the event, representing MUW. She said, “The goal [of the event] is twofold…to share information on opportunities here at MUW for the teachers and administrators and also to share information which will assist them in providing a stronger learning experience for their students back at their campuses. “Both MUW and CAFB are tremendous resources to the community and that is the overarching feel that we would like them to take away from these days.” The teachers will be given tours of campus, including several of the academic divisions, eat lunch and also attend presentations about MUW graduate programs, an overview of the campus, as well as an overview of the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science. Brock and members of the planning committee are also preparing handouts, which will include information from the different MUW academic divisions, copies of the campus newspaper, The Spectator, and more for the visitors. MUW and CAFB will repeat Educator Awareness Day on Oct.13, when 205 teachers and administrators from Lowndes County School District visit the campus. |
