Gov. Barbour’s chief of staff to speak at Town & Tower meeting
COLUMBUS, Miss. – Charlie Williams, chief of staff for Gov. Haley
Barbour, will be the guest speaker for Town & Tower Club’s meeting on
Friday, Aug. 27.
A lifelong resident of Senatobia, Williams served in the Mississippi
House of Representatives from 1976-1999.
While in the Legislature he served as chairman of the Ways & Means
Committee for eight years and was on the Legislative Budget Committee
for 12 years. He was heavily involved in taxation, tourism, gaming,
education and economic development matters.
In 1998, he was national chairman of the Council of State Governments,
an umbrella organization representing all elected and appointed public
officials in the United States.
He also served as chairman of the 16-state Southern Legislative
Conference in 1992-93.
Williams graduated from Northwest Mississippi Community College and the
University of Mississippi.
He is married to Ellen Williams, a registered nurse and nursing
instructor at Northwest Mississippi Community College. They have two
sons, Robert and John Lomerick.
Lunch will be held in Hogarth Dining Center Banquet Room on campus. The
cost is $10.

Town & Tower’s purpose is to promote the mutual interests of Columbus
and MUW. Some activities sponsored by the club include the annual
legislative trip to Jackson, the Community Prayer Breakfast and
Merchants Discount Program.
