(662) 329-7119 MUW students to host Healthwise
for Life program for adults
COLUMBUS, Miss. – The family studies honor students of Phi Upsilon of
Mississippi University for Women will host Mississippi State University
Extension Service’s Healthwise for Life program on Thursday, May 6, at 7
p.m.
According to Dr. Deborah Bailey, assistant professor of family studies,
the program is designed to teach adults about common health problems
with an emphasis on prevention and care. Participants of the program
will learn to apply assertiveness, decision-making and communication
skills to health problems and to negotiate the healthcare system more
effectively.
“This hour-long program will teach participants how to observe and
describe health changes, recognize true emergencies, manage minor health
problems at home and decide if a health professional is needed,” Bailey
said.
In addition, each participant will receive a Healthwise for Life book,
which covers at least 115 common illnesses and injuries.
Limited childcare is available for those who pre-register. The program
will be held in the Education and Human Sciences building on the campus
of MUW.
For more information about the program, contact Bailey at (662)
329-7288.
