for most creative scrapbook
COLUMBUS, Miss. – Mississippi University for Women nursing students
attended the annual Mississippi Organization of Associate Degree Nursing
Student Association (MOSA) convention on April 2, in Biloxi. This year
the members of the MUW MOSA chapter were recognized for the most
creative scrapbook for 2004.
MOSA, designed specifically for students enrolled in Associate Degree
Nursing programs, is an organization with ties and support from the
Mississippi Organization for Associate Degree Nursing (M-OADN). The
purpose of MOSA is to promote the image of associate degree nursing at
local, state and national levels, to promote associate degree nursing as
the entry into nursing practice and to maintain both the Registered
Nurse title and the current scope of practice. Through networking and
educating the public and other health care providers, MOSA strives to
advance the awareness and appreciation of associate degree nursing into
the 21st century.
The MUW MOSA chapter is actively involved in upholding the ideas of the
organization. Throughout the year, members feature speakers who address
issues such as cancer, home health nursing and rehabilitation. The
organization also participates in various community service events such
as The Golden Triangle Diabetes Walkathon. In addition, members raised
money for breast cancer awareness. This semester the organization
collected toiletries and health kits for the residents of the Monroe
County Home. As part of Homecoming 2004, the students assisted at the
health fair.
Sarah Howell, MUW assistant professor of nursing and MOSA advisor, hopes
that the students’ involvement in MOSA will lead to their participation
in professional organizations once they graduate. “We’re very pleased
this award has brought recognition to our MOSA chapter and MUW,” Howell
said.
