MUW nursing faculty to host
homemaker program training
COLUMBUS, Miss. -- Sarah Howell, MUW assistant professor of nursing, and
Pamela Thomas, MUW instructor of nursing, will host a workshop for the
Golden Triangle Planning and Development District on Friday, April 16
from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Taylor Hall.
According to Howell, the workshop is part of the Homemaker/Respite
Program Training and will educate homemakers about ways to accommodate
patients in their home environments while their caregivers are away.
“We teach them basic care, such as bathing, feeding and dressing
patients,” Howell said.
The participants also will learn about universal precautions regarding
personal care, body mechanics and positioning of the patient, the signs
and symptoms of health problems, safety concerning hygiene, as well as
issues dealing with patient confidentiality and privacy.
The workshop will feature a series of video presentations, lectures and
practice labs. According to Thomas, 27 homemakers from the Columbus
community will take part in the training program.
The participants will receive a packet containing detailed information
regarding the content presented during the program.
