(662) 329-7249 Grammy-nominated artist Matt
Morris to perform at MUW Wednesday
COLUMBUS, Miss. -- Soulful sounds with music genre mixtures of blues, jazz
and pop will flow from the stage of Rent Auditorium in Whitfield Hall
Wednesday, Feb. 25 on the campus of Mississippi University for Women.
Grammy-nominated recording artist Matt Morris will perform as part of
his “Unspoken” tour at 8 p.m.
Morris was recently recognized for co-writing five songs on Christina
Aguilera’s sophomore album ‘Stripped.” Two of these songs include the
hits, “Can’t Hold Us Down” and “Infatuation.” He also co-wrote, “Miss
Independent,” with Christina Aguilera for American Idol winner Kelly
Clarkson.
An interactive session of dialogue with the audience concerning the
music industry will follow the concert. The dialogue titled,
“Reflections on Artistry and the Business of Music: A Dialogue with Matt
Morris,” will consist of the discussion of his experiences in the music
industry as a singer, songwriter and producer. He also will talk about
the infamous trend of file sharing on the Internet. Students and faculty
are encouraged to participate.
Morris’s life is no stranger to the music industry. His father is Gary
Morris, Grammy winner for “Wind Beneath My Wings,” and his mother was a
former music performer who now uses her talents to teach kindergarten
students. Morris has entertained crowds since first grade when he sang
“Blue Suede Shoes” with a tape in a boom box. At the age of 12, he was a
Mouseketeer with music superstars Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and
Christina Aguilera.
Morris, now a 24-year-old independent artist, released his debut album,
“Unspoken,” in 2003. On Thursday, he will perform songs from this album
and songs from his upcoming CD on acoustic guitar and piano.
Following the performance, Morris will be available to take pictures and
sign autographs.
This event, which is sponsored by the MUW Student Programming Board, is
free and open to the public.
