MUW to host campus-wide career fair Thursday

COLUMBUS, Miss. – Mississippi University for Women’s Office of Career Services will host its first campus-wide career fair Thursday, Feb. 26, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Hogarth Banquet Rooms.

The purpose of the event is to provide students of all majors the opportunity to interact with employers and discuss current and upcoming career opportunities and the key skills employers are seeking in candidates.

Some of the organizations that will be in attendance include National Bank of Commerce, WCBI-TV, 4-County Electric Power Association, University Management, Harvey’s, Sweet Peppers Deli, The Grill, Columbus-Lowndes County Development Link, Federal Bureau of Prisons, Client Logic, Ace Training Center, Inc., Northeast MS Coca-Cola, Cingular Wireless and Excell Communications.

Theresa Green Ervin, Office of Career Services director, said, she is confident that this event will continue to grow as MUW continues to enhance its visibility and create and maintain collaborative partnerships with local, state and national constituents.

“I am excited about implementing a campus-wide career day as it provides the opportunity to bring prospective employers to our campus and engage in conversation with our dynamic students.”

Ervin added these events provide students the opportunity to see just how competitive it is in the work force and the importance of acquiring and developing diverse skills.

To prepare students for this event, the Office of Career Services hosted Career Week, which offered a series of evening workshops geared toward assisting students in further developing and packaging their skills. Workshop topics included employment correspondence, developing a portfolio, projecting a professional image/dress for success, interviewing techniques, networking and how to work a career fair.
