Science Bowl Saturday
COLUMBUS, Miss. – About 15 teams representing Mississippi high schools
will participate in the fourth annual Mississippi Regional Science Bowl
at Mississippi University for Women Saturday, Feb. 21.
About half of the teams are private schools and the other half are
public schools, according to Dr. Marty Harvill, associate professor of
science and math, who said one home schooled team has entered the
competition.
“The Mississippi Regional Science Bowl is a great opportunity for
students to compete in academics instead of athletics. They also have a
chance to meet students from other areas in Mississippi.”
The Science Bowl recognizes ninth through12th grade student knowledge of
science and mathematics and is played in a tournament style competition.
Random questions will be drawn from the following subject areas:
astronomy, biology, chemistry, computer science, earth science,
mathematics and physics.
The event is being sponsored through the Department of Energy and the
National Science Bowl.
Activities will be held in Parkinson Hall and begin with check-in from
7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Competition begins at 9 a.m.
