COLUMBUS, Miss.—Twelve students will take the stage to compete for the
Miss W title at Mississippi University for Women on Saturday, Feb. 7 at
7:30 p.m. in Whitfield Hall.
Contestants include Leigh Branch, a junior pre-nursing major from
Jackson. Branch’s platform is support services for battered women. She
will perform a dance for the talent competition.
Leah Carlson is a junior elementary education major from Inverness.
Carlson’s platform is treatment and prevention of domestic violence. She
will give a vocal performance for the talent competition.
Carrie Deleon is a sophomore family studies major from Hattiesburg.
Deleon’s platform is child abduction prevention awareness. She will
perform a dance for the talent competition.
Michelle DuFour is a sophomore culinary arts major from Lexington, Ky.
DuFour’s platform is food for all promoting helping to feed the needy.
She will give a vocal performance for the talent competition.
Carianne Fowler is a freshman art education major from Terry. Fowler’s
platform is volunteering. She will perform a dance for the talent
competition.
Jennifer Griffin is a freshman physical science major from Hamilton.
Griffin’s platform is educating others on the needs of the
developmentally disabled. She will perform an interpretive dance for the
talent competition.
Mary Amanda Haskins is a freshman paralegal studies major from
Vicksburg. Haskins’ platform is fight elderly abuse today. She will
perform a ballet act for the talent competition.
Alyssa Nelsen is a senior nursing major from Ridgeland. Nelsen’s
platform is reaching out to children with catastrophical illnesses. She
will give a vocal performance for the talent competition.
Amelia Parks is a senior English/creative writing major from Columbus.
Parks’ platform is knowledge is power: providing opportunities which
earn results. She will perform a dance for the talent competition.
Mary Pellerin is a junior music therapy major from Ocean Springs.
Pellerin’s platform is music therapy: prescription for physical,
emotional, and spiritual wellness. She will give a vocal performance for
the talent competition.
Britney Von Kanel is a freshman speech pathology major from Caledonia.
Von Kanel’s platform is performing arts reflect performance of life. She
will give a gymnastics performance for the talent competition.
Sally Wells is a senior business marketing major from Jackson. Wells’
platform is the beat on heart disease: being educated and active today.
Contestants will compete in evening wear, swimsuit and interview
categories.
The reigning Miss W is Miranda Faulk from Louisville.
Miss W 2004 will represent MUW at Miss Mississippi June 23-26 in
Vicksburg.
Tickets are $5 and can be purchased in the Office of Student Life.
