High school students flock to MUW for Hearin Leadership Conference

Columbus, Miss. - Once again about 100 students from Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee will attend the Hearin High School Leadership Conference at Mississippi University for Women, which kicks off today.

“[This] is an event for high school seniors who display leadership qualities through their school, community, and extracurricular activities,” Hearin program intern Sally Wells said. “Through dynamic speakers, informative workshops and interaction with fellow leaders, the conference offers a three-day leadership retreat that enhances individual leadership qualities and encourages group dynamics.”

Guest speaker Curtis Zimmerman will address the high school students during the weekend and workshops involving resume writing and personality types will be held.

Hearin and W scholarships will be available for the attendants to earn.  Wells, a W Scholar, has been involved with Hearin since she was a freshman. Wells said, “We have been planning since September to coordinate a theme, Under the Big Top of Leadership, select leaders, bring in new dynamic ideas from past retreats and create skits.”

Wells, along with other current MUW students will help administer the events of the weekend.
