MUW residence life staff recognized at conference

COLUMBUS, Miss. —Mississippi University for Women residence life  Director Telisa Young and Assistant Director Cedrick Gathings were  recognized at the Mississippi Association of Housing Officers (MAHO)  conference. It was held on Nov. 12 at The University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.

Young and Gathings were recognized for outstanding dedication for top notch programming and presentation. The topic of the presentation was “Preparing for the Unexpected.” A visual aid of the tornado damage in November 2002 was prepared by MUW public affairs Assistant Director  Chris Jenkins.

The session was based on a timeline of events which included an  emergency response and preparedness plan. Young and Gathings informed  the audience of the tools necessary to prepare for the unknown.

“Some of our sister schools have never experienced what we have gone  through here at The W,” Young said.
The members of MAHO learned how to prepare, organize, control and  communicate effectively in a crisis situation.

Gathings added, “The conference was a great way for us to network with  the representatives of other institutions and learn about the changes  they’ve made in their residence life.”
