MUW launches search for executive director of recreational sports

COLUMBUS, Miss. -- Mississippi University for Women has launched a national search for an executive director of recreational sports to lead a comprehensive sports and wellness program for the University.

Dr. Homer "Bucky" Wesley, vice president for student services said, "The goal is to find an individual with considerable experience in the field who can help build upon the program we already have and help MUW
to build one of the best intramural and wellness programs in the southeast."

The director would be responsible for management and coordination of all recreation programs and facilities.
MUW recently unveiled its Campus Master Plan and in the next five years more than $35 million will be invested on the renewal of the campus, including new buildings and renovations of existing buildings.

A highlight of the plan is the creation of a recreation district that consists of the replacement facilities for the Physical Education Assembly Building--with the addition of an outdoor pool and elevated indoor walking track, open green space, tennis courts, etc.

"To bring this facility up and operational is a complicated and complex process. We want students to know there is a lot of preparation going on now," Wesley said. "We're very serious about developing this aspect of our campus community, which will provide our students with some valuable out of the classroom experiences."

The position will be filled by the spring semester.
