MUW theater department `On the Verge' Oct. 23-25
COLUMBUS, Miss. -- The play "On the Verge (or the Geography of Yearning)" by Eric Overmyer will be performed at Mississippi University for Women.
Performances will take place Thursday, Oct. 23; Friday, Oct. 24; and Saturday, Oct. 25. All events will begin at 7:30 p.m.
“The play is challenging for both actors and audience mainly in terms of the unusual language and the structure of the play,” said Peppy Biddy, MUW director of theater.
Actors include Heather Rowland, Miranda McBeth, Jennifer Smith and Chad Fortenberry.
Biddy added, “I’ve wanted to do this play for a while, but the play required specific actors. This semester I believe to have found them.”
Scene design is by David Carter, and costume design is by Claire Jackson, who will be assisted by Eric Boswell. Lighting design is by Marianna Coffey, who will be assisted by Whit Johns. Props are by B.G. Johnson, and Brittany Harper is stage manager.
“`On the Verge' is a fantastic play in every aspect from acting to costumes to lighting. It’s a piece that requires constant innovative imagination. No where else are you going to see a yeti (an abominable snowman) as well as a 1950s lounge singer on the same stage,” Jackson said.
Sound design, including original musical compositions, is by Brian Hill. Hill and Dr. Richard Bailey will play the compositions live during the show.
Tickets are $5. For more information, contact the Division of Fine and Performing Arts at (662) 329-7341.
