Hunt receives Ruth Robinson Endowed Chair of Education at MUW

COLUMBUS, Miss. – Mississippi University for Women Professor Barbara Hunt is the recipient of the Ruth Robinson Endowed Chair of Education.

This position was started in 1992 when the executor of the estate of Ruth Robinson Smith of Winona made the education program of MUW a major beneficiary. Smith attended The W for two years and was a teacher for 39 years.

In order to receive this honor, an educator must be a full professor, have a record of outstanding teaching, scholarly achievement, and campus, community and state leadership.

“I feel very proud because my peers recommended me based on my work in the field of elementary education within the division, in the community and in the state," she said.

“The main responsibility (of this position) besides instructor of professional educational courses and advisor, is being a liaison with community colleges in order to recruit students for our education program,” she added.

Hunt has 25 years teaching experience and has taught at The W since 1995.
