MUW Culinary Arts Institute explores European cuisine
COLUMBUS, Miss. -- You don't have to travel far to experience the
pleasures of European cuisine. Just reserve your space for Mississippi
University for Women's Lunch and Learn series, which will focus on classic
European cuisine and specialty ingredients.
Chef Sarah Labensky, director of the Culinary Arts Institute, said, "I
believe that our customers enjoy attending these events because they get
to meet and interact with the students while dining on dishes that might
not be available elsewhere in the local area." The luncheon series, which
will begin in September and end in May, will meet for six sessions lasting
from noon until 1 p.m. Each session will include a short cooking
demonstration and a four or five course lunch prepared in Shattuck Hall by
culinary students.
Labensky added, "These luncheons allow our culinary students to
experience preparing and serving food for real customers. They also offer
an opportunity for students to interact with customers and develop public
presentation skills."
Classes will feature topics exploring the classic French cuisine, fresh
herbs, classic Italian cuisine, wild mushrooms, classic German cuisine and
a surprise session.
The Lunch and Learn series was started in 1999 and has been a
successful event for the Culinary Arts Institute. Each year the series
focuses on a different aspect of culinary.
The cost is $18 per person or $15 per person for W faculty and staff.
Due to limited space, participation in this event can only be guaranteed
with payment.
