MUW graduate program to sponsor summer youth program
COLUMBUS, Miss. -- With summer comes camps, adventures, expeditions,
learning and many fun activities.
This year's Summer Laureate Program at Mississippi University for Women
is no exception. Ambitious students, who have completed grades fourth
through ninth, are invited to participate in mini-courses on topics of
their choice.
"Students will rank their preferences for which programs they are most
interested in and will be placed in their top two choices on a first come
basis," said Whitney Hilton, graduate assistant.
The program is scheduled to start July 14 through July 18 from 8 a.m.
to 4 p.m. at the Education and Human Sciences building. Hilton said they
are expecting to accommodate 80 students.
The event, spearheaded by the graduate program for instructional
management, is designed to empower the graduate students to utilize skills
and teaching strategies effective in teaching diverse students.
Each year the program is different in that the graduate interns bring
original input as well as those derived from knowledge gained in the
instructional management program.
Activities in the line-up include mission possible -- students discover
the mysteries of space and experience a traveling space camp from NASA,
construction zone -- participants will design and build a clubhouse,
Mississippi wildlife -- participants in "walk on the wild side" will learn
about ecosystems, endangered species and visit the Noxubee National
Wildlife Refuge and shake rattle and roll -- students will design a 1950s
set and perform a musical.
