Home schooled students to gain from laboratory exercises

COLUMBUS, Miss. -- Mississippi University for Women is offering home schooled students an opportunity to learn practical science in the laboratories.

The studies will expose students to basic skills and help familiarize them with different laboratory equipment used in the Division of Science and Mathematics.

Dr. Marty Harvill, assistant professor of biology, who also is in charge of the program, hopes it will be an annual activity. "If you are a student who likes to go out on discovery trips this is an event for you."

This exercise is open to seventh to eighth grade level home schooled students under the supervision of a science faculty member. The opportunity will include educational as well as fun activities.

The program is scheduled to start Monday, June 23 from 1p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Plymouth Bluff Center. Application forms and directions to the venue can be found at the following address: http://www.muw.edu/sci_math/homeschool/.

For more information about the laboratories, contact Harvill at (662) 329-7376.
