COLUMBUS, Miss. -- Professors at Mississippi University for Women
recently have been noted for many accomplishments.
Dr. Lynn Chilton, professor of the graduate nurse practitioner program,
recently gave a presentation titled "Reducing Cardiovascular Risk for
Diabetic Patients" at the annual Mississippi Nurses Association Nurse
Practitioner Conference.
Chilton also is a member of the Mississippi Advanced Practice Task
Force, an elected MNA delegate to the ANA House of Delegates and a
two-time Board member of MNA as director of the Council on Health Affairs.
Dr. Patricia Donat, associate professor of psychology recently
presented a paper, "Patterns of violence: An examination of race and
gender identity," at the annual meeting of the Southeastern Psychological
Association.
Donat was appointed chair of the committee on Equality of Professional
Opportunity and will serve as an ex-officio member of the association's
executive committee.
Dr. Richard Montalto, professor of music, had original work performed.
Montalto's "Quiet Waters" was performed on a program of American music
at Austin Peay State University. The work is for a soprano with an
electronic accompaniment.
Montalto completed his term as president of the College Music Society
where he hosted an open forum on the topic of "What you can do with a
degree in music: Career options outside of music teaching and
performance." His music, "Tonus Mixtus," was performed at the CMS Southern
Chapter Conference at the University of South Florida.
At the annual conference of the Southeastern Composers, Montalto's song
cycle, "Brownings Songs," was performed.
Montalto currently is the vice president of the organization.
The 2003 World Conference for Gifted Children accepted Dr. Bob Seney's
presentation proposal, "Identifying Minority Gifted Children: The
Mississippi Identification Project."
Seney serves on the Mississippi Association for Gifted Children Task
Force and is the coordinating chair of the 2005 Conference.
He is a professor of gifted studies at MUW.
Dr. Beate Zimmer, associate professor of mathematics, was asked to
participate as a reviewer for the Mathematical Reviews Editorial
Committee.
Zimmer was asked to participate as a reviewer based on her expertise in
applications of nonstandard analysis to functional analysis.
