W paralegal student receives top honor
COLUMBUS, Miss. -- Mississippi University for Women student Tech. Sgt.
Mary Franklin of Columbus Air Force Base received a prestigious award
recently from the Non-Commissioned Officer Academy at Keesler Air Force
Base.
Franklin obtained the John L. Levitow award, the highest award granted
to enlisted Air Force personnel during a military course. The Levitow
award is in honor of Air Force Sgt. John L. Levitow, who was the lowest
ranking airman to receive the Medal of Honor.
The award recognizes excellent performances in flight instruction,
leadership, uniform inspection and two written exams. A requirement for
non-commissioned officers to advance in rank, the professional military
educational course of which Franklin participated is a pre-requisite in
the process of being promoted to master sergeant.
Also known as a PME, the preparatory course provides leadership,
personnel, supervisory, evaluation and counseling skills. Franklin
currently is studying paralegal studies at The W and works as a paralegal
with the Columbus Air Force Base.
"She [Franklin] is able to combine her career in the military with a
full load as a paralegal," said Jim Davidson, director of paralegal
studies.
Franklin's current specialty of law is in military justice where she is
responsible for court-martials, adverse actions and non-judicial
punishments.
Fellow Tech. Sgt. Chloe Ross described Franklin as, "the most organized
paralegal I have ever met. She devotes much time to her family and the Air
Force."
Franklin plans to continue her education in law school. |
