MUW receives Triota honor society chapter

COLUMBUS, Miss. -- Mississippi University for Women recently received recognition as the 14th national chapter of Iota Iota Iota. The W chapter has been given the Greek letter of Xi.

Triota is an honor society that encourages and supports excellence in women's studies. The organization is open to all students who are enrolled in at least six hours of women's studies courses with an overall 3.0 GPA.

"I am honored to serve as the faculty sponsor for MUW's new Triota chapter. The establishment of a women's studies honor society on campus is an important tribute to our history as the first public college for women in the United States and to our current emphasis on the academic and leadership preparation of women," said Dr. Patricia Donat, associate professor of psychology and director of general studies.

The honor society becoming available at The W was made possible by the students of the introduction to women's studies class during the fall semester.

Officers of the organization include Harriet Elmore as president, Karen McGuff as vice president and Nikki Ballard as secretary treasurer.

New members of the Triota chapter will be inducted during the fall semester.

Anyone interested in the organization should contact Dr. Donat at (662) 329-7190 or email at pdonat@muw.edu.
