Nursing faculty recognized for their accomplishments

COLUMBUS, Miss. -- Nursing faculty in Mississippi University for Women's highly regarded nursing program have achieved many accolades.

Dr. Linda Forte', assistant professor of nursing, was featured in the Winter 2003 issue of Minority Nursing for her innovative project with regards to breast cancer titled "Circling the Issues."

Dr. Linda Cox, program director for the baccalaureate program in nursing, and Debbie Miranda, nursing professor, will have an article featured in the May/June 2003 issue of Nurse Educator. The article is titled "Enhancing Student Leadership Development in Community Settings."

Dr. Mary Ann Kelley received a grant from the Central Mississippi affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation to teach breast cancer detection to African-American nurses in Attala and Leflore counties. These nurses will in turn teach what they have learned from Kelley to underserved African-American women in their communities.

Kelley also was selected as MUW's 2003 Black History Month nominee. She was recognized by the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning in Jackson in February.
