MUW Foundation receives $120,000 unrestricted gift
COLUMBUS, Miss. -- The MUW Foundation received a $120,000 unrestricted
gift that will aid the Foundation in providing scholarship support to MUW
students. The gift from an estate gift was given with the request that the
donor remains anonymous.
The university also received a $26,000 commitment from the Lettie Pate
Whitehead Foundation to provide scholarships for nursing students in the
2003-2004 academic year. The Whitehead Foundation is headquartered in
Atlanta and is part of the larger Woodruff Foundation.
Dr. Sheila Adams, head of the Division of Nursing, said, "We are
grateful to the Whitehead Foundation for this generous gift. So many
nursing students need financial assistance to complete their education and
the Whitehead Scholarship provides that assistance. This scholarship is
especially crucial at a time when there is an ongoing national need for
more nurses."
These gifts, which together total $146,000, will be administered
through the MUW Foundation.
MUW President Claudia Limbert said, "This is an important addition to
the funds available to help our students, many of whom could simply not
afford access to a college education and its transforming benefits without
this kind of support."
Eighty four percent W students receive some form of financial aid. The
MUW Foundation funds more than $1 million in scholarships each year. |
