Faulk crowned Miss W

COLUMBUS, Miss.-- Mississippi University for Women student Miranda Faulk, who was recently crowned Miss W, will represent The W Saturday, June 28 at Miss Mississippi in Vicksburg.

Faulk is a junior speech pathology major from Louisville. Her platform is importance of physical fitness and nutrition. She gave a vocal performance for the talent competition.

First alternate, Michelle DuFour is a freshman culinary arts major from Lexington, Ky. Dufour's platform is feeding those in need. She gave a vocal performance for the talent competition.

Second alternate, Mendy Carnathan is a junior history/pre-law major from Okolona. Carnathan's platform is hearing impaired. She gave a sign language performance for the talent competition.

Conner Anderson was voted Miss Congeniality by the contestants in the pageant. She is a senior psychology major from Louisville. Her platform is mentoring children. She gave a piano performance for the talent competition.

Carrie DeLeon of Hattiesburg won the Martha Jo Mims Critical Issue Award. The award, named in honor of Dr. Martha Jo Mims, goes to the contestant who devotes an extraordinary amount of time and effort to developing and promoting her platform. DeLeon was presented with a plaque and a $50 dollar check to help further the community agency of her choice.

Seven students competed for the title of Miss W. Contestants also competed in evening wear, swimsuit and interview categories.
