COLUMBUS, Miss. -- When 6-year-old Alexander woke up with gum in his
hair he thought he was having a bad day. When his mom forgot to put
dessert in his lunchbox, he knew he was having a terrible day. And when
the dentist found a cavity he was sure he was having a terrible, horrible,
no good, very bad day.
Based on the popular book of the same title by Judith Viorst,
"Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" is now a new
musical.
The MUW theater department in conjunction with Columbus Arts Council
present the musical on Thursday, Feb. 13; Friday, Feb. 14; and Saturday,
Feb. 15. Viorst adapted the play from her book of the same title. Music is
by Shelly Markham.
Michael Turner is featured in the role of Alexander. Turner is a
professional actor from Dallas. Other cast members include local actor Tom
Hatcher as the Father and eight other talented students from MUW and the
Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science: Kristy Fallin as Mother,
Chad Fortenberry as Anthony, Adam Sumrall as Nick.
The ensemble includes Moriah Mozingo and Duston Price from last year's
"Once Upon a Mattress" and MUW theater newcomers Jennifer Smith, Eric
Boswell, Kristina Wells and Anna Black.
Music Therapy Director Kristen Cole serves as musical director, MUW
theater’s David Carter designs sets and lighting, costume design by Claire
Jackson, props by BG Jackson and puppets by Marianna Coffey.
MUW Theater Director Peppy Biddy directs and choreographs.
The show will be performed in Whitfield Auditorium on Saturday, Feb.15
at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Advance tickets are $3 for children, MUW faculty,
