MUW celebrates Black History Month with a host of
activities
The Human Race Machine, sponsored at Mississippi University for Women
by the Hearin Leadership Program, the Student Programming Board and Office
of Diversity Education and Programs, is one of several ways MUW will
celebrate Black History Month.
Similar to a photo booth, the Human Race Machine takes a picture of
your face through computer software. Individuals are able to alter their
image by selecting one of various offerings, including race or age. The
Human Race Machine will be available through Friday, Feb. 7 in Hogarth W
Room.
The Office of Diversity Education and Programs, formerly known as the
Office of Multicultural Affairs, also will advocate Black History Month
with a Minority Appreciation Breakfast recognizing minority faculty and
staff Friday, Feb. 14 at 8 a.m. in The Goose.
The Coretta Social Club will present a fashion show on Tuesday, Feb. 11
at 7 p.m. in Hogarth W Room.
The Minority Student Association will host A Forum for Diversity on
Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. in Poindexter. Dr. Claudia Limbert and Diane
Hardy Thompson, the first African-American admitted to The W in 1966, will
speak along with students concerning diversity and tolerance on campus.
In conclusion of Black History Month, a play titled, "By Noon," will be
held Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. in Poindexter Auditorium. The
performance will explore what happens when a friendship is tested against
the obstacles of how society separates people because of their
differences.
