Property given to MUW

COLUMBUS, Miss. - A recent gift of property to Mississippi University for Women is an important addition to the campus and its use will be part of a new plan to guide campus facility decisions over the next 20 years.

The property is located on the south end of the campus between Ninth and 12th Avenues and was given to the university by Fred Hahn of Tuscaloosa, Ala. The site contains garages, warehouses and storage buildings.

"This came at a wonderful time for The W, we were in need of secure space to store articles that came from buildings damaged by the tornado of November 10," said Nora Miller, vice president for finance and administration.

The university is in the preliminary stages of developing a new campus master plan to help guide future decisions about the campus. The use of this new property will be governed by that plan. The plan will address building renovations, landscaping, traffic and lighting.

MUW President Claudia Limbert will form a campus master plan taskforce made up of a wide variety of individuals from all parts of the university, community and alumni to help advise her in the planning.

"This group, with input from many others, will help me establish parameters as we seek to rebuild the damage done by the tornado and focus on important renovations for our historic buildings. We will be planning now for The W of five, 10 and 20 years from now."
