MUW registration Aug. 16; campus and city gear up for Move-In Day COLUMBUS, Miss. -- Mississippi University for Women will have registration for the fall semester Friday, Aug. 16 in McDevitt Hall. Registration will be held from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., and students should attend at their designated time. Students unable to attend at their designated time may register though Monday, Aug. 26 and must pay a late fee. On Wednesday, Aug. 14, MUW will dust off its welcome mat as students return to campus for Move-In Day. Telisa Young, residence life director, said, "Move-In Day is a time set aside to welcome our students back on campus and for faculty and staff to roll up their sleeves and help students move into the dorms." The Town & Tower Club of Columbus will provide pizzas for the event. Efforts are under way to revive the merchants discount program where participating businesses offer a 10 percent discount to MUW faculty, staff and students with an identification card. Merchants display a T&T logo on their door. Bobby Harper, Town & Tower Club president, said, "We always look forward to the fall because this means students will be returning to campus. The community is very proud to have a partnership with the campus through Town & Tower. We will continue to look for ways that we can strengthen the ties between the community and campus. We recognize the importance of The W here. We respect the history of quality education and the contributions the students, faculty and staff make here in Columbus." Town & Tower's goal is to help Columbus and MUW combine their numerous assets and contribute to the well being of the entire community. Downtown merchants also will welcome students with "welcome back" posters and discounts. Main Street director and W alumna Jan Miller said, "We're looking forward to the students as they return to campus. We want to emphasize that they have great places to shop and great places to eat in downtown Columbus. It's all within walking distance from The W. We will be doing some great things to cater to the students of The W. This is a part of their family." Move-In Day will kick off Welcome Week activities, which will include a concert, new student convocation, Freshman Serenade, the only mobile sky dive simulator in the world, Blues Night and comedian Spanky. Day and evening classes will begin Monday, Aug. 19. For more information about registration, contact the Office of Admissions toll-free at 1-877-462-8439 or (662) 329-7106. |
