RE:  Policy Cancellation

I recommend cancellation of PS 8503.

Rationale:

PS 8503 covers the Selection and Responsibility of the Student Organization Advisory Board.  Board has not been selected or convened since August 1997 (if not before).  Policy Statement #8502 is policy concerning student organizations.  This policy notes requirements for beginning a new student organization and what it takes to continue as an organization.  MUW procedures governing student organizations including the requirements to start a new organization and who may be members is noted in the Student Handbook, beginning on page 56.

Enforcement has already been given to the university “…The university reserves the right to revoke the charter of any organization (PS 8502, #8)  The Student Handbook, page 60, notes that the director of student life is the individual who has the power to withdraw the university recognition of a student organization given one of five conditions.

The Student Handbook (pg. 57) notes that organizations are required to have an advisor, but that they are free to choose whom they wish.
