Section 25-53-191 of the
Mississippi Code
1972 annotated and supplements thereto contain the authority and
parameters for
the use of wireless communication devices.
These devices include cellular telephones, pagers, or personal
digital
assistant devices having wireless communication capability. No such device paid for through the use of
public funds shall be made available to any University employee for
personal
use. Public funds will not be used to
pay for cellular telephones, cellular service, or to reimburse any
employee for
use of his or her personal wireless communication device.
Due to
documented safety concerns, the University does not support or condone
the use
of cellular telephones while an employee is driving. This restriction
applies
both to hand-held and hands-free phones. Also, employees should be
aware that
cellular telephone transmissions are not secure transmissions.
Confidential
information regarding official business should be transmitted from a
secure
environment.
