Purpose: To formulate guidelines for the acdeptance of gifts: books, magazines, journals, documents, microfilms, memorabilia, etc., to Fant Memorial Library

Operating Details:
1. The Director of Library Services will review all gifts to the library collection.
2. Gifts accepted by the Fant Memorial Library must meet the following conditions:
a. materials are applicable to current academic programs b. materials do not duplicate the current collection c. materials are not out of date and are in good condition
3. Only those items which enhance the collection will be retained. The Director may disperse materials through gifts and exchange programs if they meet university criteria for the collection. Donors will be required to sign a form (copy attached) stating they understand university guidelines for accepting gifts. The donor is personally responsible for placing value on donations. The IRS indicates that it is the responsibility of the individual to place the value on gifts and not the responsibility of the institution receiving the gift.
4. The MUW Foundation shall be informed of significant contributions of materials to the library or of problems that might develop with prospective donors to the University. Cash gifts shall pass through the Foundation.
