OPERATING DETAILS:
|
|
1. Each College and
degree granting Institute will
annually make provision for faculty representatives to serve in an
advisory capacity to the Dean or Institute Director on curriculum
policy matters. This may be accomplished by the establishment of a
College/Institute-wide Curriculum Advisory Committee and/or by the
appointment of separate Curriculum Committees for each department.
2. When
College/Institute-wide Curriculum Committees
are used, membership should include representatives from each
department within the College/Institute. Members will be appointed by
the Dean or the Institute Director, who will also designate one
individual to serve as chair.
3. Each College and
Institute will develop a set of
guidelines describing the specific operating procedures related to
curriculum matters including guidelines for the Curriculum
Committee(s). Minutes of meetings are to be maintained in the College
or Institute.
4. The Committee(s)
will meet as needed throughout
the year to act upon any matters pertaining to the curriculum as
referred to them by the Dean or Institute Director. In this capacity,
the Committee will investigate, evaluate, recommend, advise, and/or
consent on the following subject:
a)
General
Curriculum requirements.
b) Departmental
offerings within the University core
(The committee will review course content and objectives to ensure
continued alignment with the goals of the core curriculum and will
review evaluation methods for assessing core curriculum student
learning outcomes and changes made based on the results of these
evaluations.)
c) Proposals for
adding or deleting majors, minors,
or concentrations within the College/Institute.
d) Proposals for
adding or deleting individual
courses within the College/Institute.
e) Other curriculum
matters relating to the
College/Institute.
5. Findings,
evaluation, recommendations, advice,
etc., will be forwarded by the Advisory Committee to the Dean or
Institute Director for further action as he/she deems appropriate.
6. Recommendations
originating from
Colleges/Institute(s) for major curriculum changes, additions or
deleting of majors, minors, concentrations, or individual courses will
be forwarded by the Dean or Institute Director to the Undergraduate
Curriculum Council, Graduate Council, Academic Council, etc., as
appropriate.
7. Presentations of
proposals must be made by a
faculty member in the discipline submitting the proposal.
