Title: Graduation Requirements

Purpose: To establish a policy regarding the requirements which must be met to graduate and the requirement necessary for participation in the Commencement exercises in May

Operating Details:

1. A student wishing to graduate must inform her/his Division Head of her/his intentions at least one year in advance of the degree requirement completion date. There are three graduation dates: May (annual ceremony), August, and December.

2. A student wishing to graduate must complete an application for a degree in the Office of the Registrar before a diploma or cap and gown will be ordered. Completion of degree requirements does not necessitate a diploma automatically being ordered.

3. Division Heads or the Graduate School will check requirements for the academic major(s) and/or minor(s) which a student states she is seeking. The list of degree applicants and their intentions will be sent to the Division Heads and the Graduate School from the Office of the Registrar. This list will be verified by the Division head or Graduate School and from this list degrees will be posted after requirements are completed.

4. The Registrar will check overall and MUW quality point requirements for these students and notify the Division Heads of students with quality point deficiencies. The Division heads are responsible for checking quality point requirements for each major indicated.

5. A student must maintain a 2.0 quality point average on a. all courses b. all courses taken at MUW c. all courses in the major

6. Division Heads will check residency requirements and senior college academic hours.

7. A student wishing to participate in the annual ceremony in May a. must have completed all requirements for her degree to be conferred in December prior to May, or b. must have completed all requirements for her degree to be conferred in May, or c. must have a 2.0 or better MUW quality point average and a 2.0 or better overall quality point average for a diploma to be received the following August, and be within 12 hours of completing all degree requirements

8. A student recognized for honors at the commencement ceremony must have graduated with a 3.5 MUW overall Q.P.A. or must have completed the requirements of the university honors program.

9. The awards to be presented include the Dreifus Senior Award and the "Faculty Member of the Year Award". All other academic awards are presented at the Awards Day Ceremony.
