Group Exercise Instructor- Campus Recreation (Less than 19.5 hours per week, non-benefits eligible)

 

OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY – Serve as a leader for a variety of group exercise classes safely and effectively.

 

OVERALL

RESPONSIBILITIES – Instructors will serve as leaders of RecAerobics group exercise classes for MUW students and Campus Recreation members, it is the instructor’s responsibility to ensure that classes are safe for participants at all times; instructors should be prepared for each class including being properly attired and thoroughly prepared to lead a safe and effective routine; instructors should lead each class for the participant’s benefit, not the instructors, this includes breaking down routines, explaining correct technique and body alignment; instructors should be prepared to substitute as needed; instructors are responsible for filling out all necessary paperwork and document class participation; instructors will set up for class and ensure the dance studio is clean before they leave; instructors will be assigned to a set class schedule and should follow that schedule unless a substitute is needed; instructors should list classes in the sub book for which a sub is needed, the person picking up that class is responsible for that class when they sign the book; instructors should adhere to and enforce all policies and procedures of the Wellness Program and Campus Recreation; instructors should attend all meetings and trainings; promote, market Campus Recreation programs and services; and performs other reasonable duties as assigned.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS – High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; all instructors must be CPR/AED certified; National Certification from an entity such as AFFA or ACE is preferred; if the candidate is not certified they must go through an in-house certification process; experience teaching/ leading group exercise classes preferred.

Research Assistant- Part-time, 20 hours per week, benefits eligible- Office of Development  (Coordinator II)

 

OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY – The Research Assistant is a part-time professional who will work 20 hours per week to research information about prospective donors.  The Research Assistant will be a member of the Development staff who coordinates the collection of information about prospects and will, from that information, prepare profiles for use by staff and volunteers as they seek gifts for the University.

 

OVERALL

RESPONSIBILITIES – Utilizing the Development Office, President’s Office, and Alumni Office files for research; utilizing the internet for research; preparing prospect information reports based on information obtained to assist the Development staff in making calls and solicitations; entering information into the Raiser’s Edge database; keeping this information confidential; and performs other reasonable duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS – Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Director of Sponsored Programs and Grant Writer - Academic Affairs (Coordinator II)

 

OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY – Works with faculty, staff, and the administration to develop grant proposals, prepare grant proposals, and prepare reports to granting agencies.  Coordinates grant funded programs for agencies, institutions, local government or units of local government and assists by performing the following duties.

 

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES –Reviews literature dealing with funds available through grants from governmental agencies and private foundations to determine feasibility of developing programs to supplement local annual budget allocations; discusses program requirements and sources of funds available with administrative personnel and faculty; writes grant applications, according to format required, and submits application to funding agency or foundation and engages faculty in the process at every step in the procedure; directs and coordinates evaluation and monitoring of grant funded programs, develops specifications for evaluation and monitoring of program funded by outside agencies; assists department personnel in writing periodic reports to comply with grant requirements; maintains master files on grants and monitors paperwork connected with grant funded programs; and performs other duties as may be assigned.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS – Bachelor’s degree  preferred from four-year college or university; and four years related experience and/or training.

  Executive Director for Development (Unit Director) -  Office of Development

 

OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY – The Executive Director for Development reports directly to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and is responsible for supporting the advancement activities of the institution.

 

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES – Directs the management of the total development program; plan the work of the Development Department; prepares statement of planned activities and enlists support from alumni and staff; prepares Annual Development Budget; assists in developing programs and materials to enhance the University’s image and promotes fund-raising programs; identifies potential contributors to special project funds and supporters of institution’s ongoing operations through examination of past records, individual and corporate contacts, and knowledge of community; organizes a direct mail campaign to reach potential contributors in coordination with the Annual Giving and Planned Giving Directors; plans and coordinates benefit events such as the Welty Dinner and other such functions; informs potential contributors of special needs of the University and encourages individuals, corporations and foundations to establish or contribute to special funds through endowments, trusts, donations of gifts in kind, or bequests, conferring with attorneys and financial planners to establish methods of transferring funds to benefit both donors and the University; assists in grant application activities; supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in maintaining records of contributors and grants and preparing letters of appreciation to be sent to contributors; represents the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and President at specific functions as requested by the Vice President for Institutional Advancement; and other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS – Bachelor’s degree is required and at least three years related experience and/or training.

Assistant Director of Alumni Relations- Alumni Relations  (Coordinator I)

OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY –Assists the Executive Director of Alumni Relations in fulfilling the mission of Mississippi University for Women by performing the following duties.

 

OVERALL

RESPONSIBILITIES –Develops, coordinates and implements programs and activities to engage alumni; develops avenues for consistent communication with alumni including maintaining the MUW online community; provides assistance in updating alumni information; assists in leading Student Alumni Ambassador program; provides support, guidance and advice to alumni group leaders; coordinates the activities and organization of alumni groups and the development of new groups; assists in developing programs to involve alumni in student recruitment; regularly travels to meet with alumni groups to encourage and support their officers and key leaders and maintains effective communication with them; trains and motivates officers in specific duties and techniques involving alumni support; coordinates alumni group organization; assists alumni groups in planning alumni meetings; assists as needed in the planning and coordination of affiliated association activities; and performs other reasonable duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS – Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; MUW graduate preferred; ability and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends; ability and willingness to travel frequently; ability to work independently without supervision; and friendly, outgoing personality.

 Administrative Assistant & Lab Technician - (Grant Funded)

 

OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY – Performs grant administrative work primarily and lab work which involves bookkeeping, paperwork, and ordering for the administration of the research grants of Dr. Ross Whitwam and Dr. Lauren Brandon.

 

OVERALL

RESPONSIBILITIES – Priority responsibilities are to administer research grants of Drs. Whitwam and Brandon as follows: fill out and file all necessary paperwork related to ordering goods with grant funds; order goods with grant funds as directed; make trips to local stores to purchase supplies with granted funds; monitor research expenses and reconcile with yearly grant budgets; monitor lab supplies and reorder as necessary.  Secondary responsibilities involve preparing and maintaining lab stocks of reagents and media; assisting with research protocols; helping new students learn research protocols; and other duties as may be assigned.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS – Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Administrative Assistant- Academic Advising & Support Services  (Administrative Assistant I)

 

OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY – Provides administrative support for the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and serves as office manager for the Office of Academic Advising and Support Services.

 

OVERALL

RESPONSIBILITIES – Provides administrative support for the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and serves as office manager for the Office of Academic Advising and Support Services; maintains budget and prepares all financial paperwork, including student payroll; supervises academic tutors/student workers in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws; appropriately accesses confidential student records using the Banner system; develops and maintains tracking systems for retention, assessment, and evaluation purposes; maintains inventory of office equipment and supplies; oversees exam scheduling and administration for students with diagnosed disabilities; maintains departmental websites; records minutes and prepares correspondence; coordinates events sponsored by the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, by the Director of Academic Advising, and by the Director of Academic Support Services; appropriately answers students’ questions, addresses concerns, and resolves problems; and performs other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS – High school diploma or general education degree (GED); college degree preferred and two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience; working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software required; proficiency in keyboarding required; and knowledge of Banner software and html authoring software preferred.
