PARALEGAL
STUDIES COMPUTER LAB
Adjacent to the
Paralegal office is a state-of-the-art computer lab,
consisting of eight internet connected Gateway computers,
including a Hewlett-Packard network printer, copy and
facsimile machine. The area has a study table for legal
research, and seating is ample. The computer lab is open
during the same hours as the library and can be used by
students, faculty and staff regularly.
Through the use of these computers,
students have access to a multitude of research resources at
Fant Memorial Library, which includes Lexis-Nexis. The
program has been a subscriber to Westlaw for a number of
years, and in addition, has received a substantial donation
of access to the Mississippi Lawyers website. This website
provides all Mississippi court-related documents and rules,
court calendars, statistical information, as well as over
2,000 forms which can be printed for the use of the
students. Other software installed includes Abacus Law,
Timeslips, and Best Case Bankruptcy, among others.
The most effective tools in the
computer lab is unlimited access to Westlaw and access to
Lexis-Nexis through the Fant Memorial Library computer
system. These services give the student the opportunity to
research any legal issue instantly, so that the student will
have knowledge of the current law and an advantage of the
finest training with potential employers.
All of the research formats and
software installed are compatible with those contained in
most law offices, and the trained and professional
paralegal, upon graduation, will have the necessary tools to
become a valuable member of the legal services team.
