Should I attend Orientation with my student?

We encourage you to do so. There is a parent and family schedule that was created around your specific needs as a parent or guardian, and we would like for you to take advantage of this to learn more about Mississippi University for Women and ways to help your student succeed.

How do I register to attend?

Add your name on the student registration form to be mailed in and include your registration fee. If your student has already submitted his/her registration form, you may call the Office of Student Life at 662-241-6974 to be added. In this case, you would pay your registration fee during check-in.

How much does it cost for me to attend?

The $35 per person registration fee applies to parents and family of Freshman students and a $35 per person fee applies to Transfer parent and family members.

What does my registration fee cover?

Your registration fee includes meals, all session materials, staffing, and operational costs. The Office of Orientation does not receive any profit from your registration fee.

Can I help my student sign up for his/her class?

No. Because the advising area has limited space, we do not allow parents and guests to accompany students while making their schedules. Deans and advisors from all academic colleges will be there to help your student create a class schedule that is right for him/her. Students will have the opportunity to make decisions based on the guidance of our outstanding faculty.

Is the parent schedule different from the student schedule?

Yes. While you will attend some of the same activities as your student, the parent schedule was created specifically for your needs as a parent or guardian. Informational sessions presented by professionals from many campus offices will give you the opportunity to have all of your questions answered, the changes associated with having your son or daughter enter college will be addressed, and you will learn ways to help your student as they transition to a new environment.

Can we stay on campus the night before Orientation?

Yes! If it is more convenient for you to stay on campus the night before Orientation, you may do so at no extra charge. Just contact the Office of Community Living at 662-329-7127 to make reservations.

  What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellation and refund requests must be made in writing and postmarked no later than 14 days prior to the Orientation session.
